GENERAL INFORMATION:
The foreign language department offers students the opportunity to learn English as a second language focusing on the correct use of the language and giving them the necessary knowledge to be able to conduct themselves in any English speaking environment. Students are evaluated in four main areas; Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. During the last grade of each level (6th, 9th, and 12th) students present a Cambridge exam to certify their English level. Starting in Middle School (7th grade) students begin to take German as a third language, and continue until they graduate from High School (12th grade). Students have two hours a week of German and are evaluated based on written and spoken German. German classes are taught by native speaking teachers. While taking German students become aware of not only the language, but also the culture and are encouraged to continue their studies.
The main objectives of the foreign language department are:
- To have students integrate the language into their everyday life.
- To maintain a detailed report of each students’ measurable advances in English, from kindergarten to high school, to better accommodate individual needs.
- To reach a B2-C1 English level at the end of 12th grade.
KINDERGARTEN:
Starting in Pre-K, students are part of a bilingual school system. Main objective in Kindergarten is to have students become familiar with the language and expose them to vocabulary. Classes are taught with game like activities to adopt English as natural as possible. By the end of Kindergarten students have a lot of vocabulary, are able to follow simple instruction, construct simple sentences (written and orally), and read in English.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
Elementary School has a bilingual system with the addition of different subjects in English. From first grade and until a student continues at Colegio de Chihuahua, a diagnostic test is implemented at the start and the end of the year to have concrete numbers of improvement and areas in need of improvement. These evaluations are different Cambridge Mock Exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers) and are used to individualize educational needs.
In Elementary School students increase their vocabulary, begin working with grammar rules, and work on projects with required presentations to different audiences.
At the end of Elementary School (6th grade) student present an official Cambridge Exam (Flyers/KET) to graduate with a certificate of their English level (A2).
MIDDLE SCHOOL:
Middle School starts with the introduction of German as a third language starting with basic German and continuously working to increase the knowledge of the language and culture. A native speaker teaches students with a focus on spoken and written German in dynamic classes.
The Middle School English program is best described as challenging, because students must use previous knowledge to produce the language, not just present exams. Their knowledge of English is put to the test with cultural trips to the United States and Europe where students are expected to use English as their main form of communication.
On-going diagnostic English evaluations allow us to focus on specific areas of improvement and accommodate those needs. At the end of each of the three years of Middle School students present TOEFL giving us measurable results for each student. At the end of the third year (9th grade) students once again present a Cambridge Exam (PET, B1) to certify their English level. Students with outstanding knowledge of the language are invited to present the First Certificate in English (FCE) making them eligible to obtain up to a C1 CEFR level.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Students entering High School begin a rigorous road to prepare them for college. Not only do they begin the college admissions processes but they continue with a heavy load of course work including English and German.
At the end of High School, students are expected to reach an A2 German level. Continuing to work on speaking and written language, students also present speaking projects in German. Students also have an opportunity to travel to Germany to further their studies of the language and culture.
Students at this English level are constantly put to the test with project based evaluations where they must show outstanding use of speaking skills. At the end of every year, students are continued to be tested with TOEFL. Students who demonstrate almost perfect knowledge of English, are given the opportunity to tutor other class mates and to enroll in the Teachers Knowledge Test (TKT) course and exams. Students enrolled in this course are recognized for their high English knowledge and given the opportunity to teach classes in Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle school. By the end of High School students present the IELTS Cambridge exam in which they are eligible to reach up to a C1 English level.
Students who graduate from Colegio de Chihuahua`s High School, graduate with an impressive and complete curriculum. They are recognized for being well rounded students.

INFORMACION GENERAL:
El departamento de Idiomas del Colegio de Chihuahua ofrece a los alumnos la oportunidad de aprender inglés como segunda lengua, con un enfoque en el uso correcto de ésta y brindándoles las herramientas necesarias para poder conducirse adecuadamente en cualquier lugar de habla inglesa. Los alumnos son evaluados en cuatro áreas principales: Reading, Writing, Listening, y Speaking. Al finalizar cada grado terminal, nuestros alumnos presentan un examen de Cambridge para certificar su nivel de inglés.
Iniciando secundaria se añade alemán como tercer idioma al plan de estudios del Colegio de Chihuahua, mismo que es estudiado hasta concluir preparatoria. El plan de estudios incluye dos horas de alemán las cuales se enfocan en la parte escrita y oral. Dicha asignatura es impartida por maestros que han vivido en países de habla alemana. Las clases de alemán no solo se enfocan en el idioma sino en la cultura también.
Los principales objetivos del departamento de idiomas son:
- El alumno utilice conocimientos en la vida diaria.
- Mantener un expediente personalizado y detallado para cada alumno, el cual contiene información de sus avances desde kínder hasta preparatoria.
- Al finalizar preparatoria, nuestros alumnos egresen con un nivel B2-C1
KINDER:
Iniciando en maternal los alumnos son parte de un programa 100% bilingüe. El objetivo principal de kínder es familiarizarlos con el idioma y exponerlos a vocabulario. Las clases son impartidas de manera divertida y lúdica para que el dominio del idioma inglés comience, desde estos primeros años, tan natural como el español.
Al finalizar kínder, nuestros alumnos tienen un amplio conocimiento de vocabulario, siguen instrucciones completamente en inglés, construyen oraciones simples (escritas y orales), y pueden leer en inglés.
PRIMARIA:
Nuestros alumnos continúan inmersos en un sistema bilingüe mediante materias adicionales en inglés. Desde primero de primaria, sus habilidades son medidas mediante la aplicación de exámenes Mock de Cambridge (Startes, Movers, Flyers). Como parte de un plan personalizado de estudios, estos resultados nos permiten trabajar de forma individual.
En primaria el alumno incrementa el conocimiento de vocabulario, utiliza reglas gramáticas, y trabaja en proyectos que requieren presentaciones orales. Al finalizar primaria, nuestros alumnos presentan un examen de Cambridge oficial (Flyers o KET) para egresar con un certificado de inglés (nivel A2).
SECUNDARIA:
El departamento de idiomas de secundaria se caracteriza por la alta exigencia académica ya que además de mostrar un claro dominio del idioma inglés, inician con el estudio de un tercer idioma: alemán.
En este nivel los estudiantes demuestran el dominio del inglés con la producción de proyectos bimestrales con los cuales son evaluados, ya que deben utilizar todas las áreas del idioma. Aquí también tienen oportunidad de reafirmar sus conocimientos de inglés y alemán siendo parte de viajes culturales a Estados Unidos y Alemania.
La evaluación continuas nos permiten enfocar las clases a las áreas de mejora que cada alumno presente. Para concluir secundaria, nuestros estudiantes presentan un examen de Cambridge (PET, nivel B1) para certificar su nivel de inglés.
PREPARATORIA:
Los jóvenes inscritos en preparatoria inician su preparación para ingresar a la universidad. El perfil del alumno de preparatoria se distingue por el manejo de la información en inglés. Gran parte de sus evaluaciones consisten en proyectos donde ponen en práctica las cuatro áreas que han desarrollado desde kínder. Igualmente continúan las posibilidades de participar en viajes académicos y culturales a Estados Unidos y Alemania con el fin de reafirmar sus conocimientos de ambos idiomas.
Dándole continuidad a la personalización de los estudios, aquí también son evaluados constantemente con varias herramientas para la mejoras continuas. Así mismo aquellos alumnos que presentan un alto dominio del idioma inglés, son invitados a ser tutores para sus compañeros y tomar el curso extracurricular de TKT, Teaching Knowledge Test, el cual les instruye en cómo ser maestros de inglés y les da la oportunidad de impartir clases en kínder, primaria y secundaria.
El alumno egresado de la Preparatoria del Colegio de Chihuahua cuenta con un currículo deseable para cualquier universidad y que le abrirá puertas a nivel nacional e internacional.
